A while back I wondered what might happen if sufficiently advanced robotics made large proportions of the workforce inherently unemployable.  I concluded that we’d either need to a large welfare state for the unemployed, or mass genetic reengineering (or possibly drug-induced enhancement) to give them the capabilities they needed.  (Of course, it’s questionable whether the latter is even feasible.)  For the sake of social peace, we may no longer be able to afford bioethical restrictions on human enhancement.

One wonders what happens to retailers (and those who work there) if – when? – these become widespread.

Oil Demand Elasticityhttp://economistsview.typepad.com/economistsview/2008/06/gas-price-elast.html

As I suspected:  gasoline demand, although, follows a non-linear trajectory – largely inelastic in the short term, then falling off a cliff.
